Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery Launches First Ladies Website
A new exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery titled, “Every Eye Is Upon Me: First Ladies of the United States,” opens in November 2020 and will be on display through May 2021. The exhibition explores the historical significance of America’s First Ladies over nearly 250 years. Interactive Knowledge designed and produced a bilingual website that displays multiple portraits of the First Ladies and important information about each. The site is divided into two sections:
- View the Exhibition shows every portrait featured in the exhibition as well as other images from the Smithsonian’s collection that relate to each of the First Ladies.
- Research the Women offers a search portal into the Smithsonian’s extensive collection of historical art and artifacts that describe the First Ladies in an engaging context. This section also houses National Portrait Gallery blog posts, podcasts and social media feeds from recent First Ladies.
Interactive Knowledge designed and produced a bilingual, interactive website for a permanent exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery titled, “America’s Presidents” in 2017. The First Ladies website is a compelling continuation of the story of America’s White House residents. The First Ladies exhibition promises to be a very popular attraction in Washington DC and has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning during an interview with former President Barack Obama.
