Interactive Knowledge Is Named a Smithsonian Preferred Vendor for Web and Mobile Applications
In 2004, Interactive Knowledge was chosen as one of eight digital design firms across the country that could be selected by Smithsonian project managers to design and develop website projects without putting the contract out to bid. We were under a blanket contract that was renewed for seven consecutive years. During that time we completed twelve Smithsonian website projects. They all were memorable but the most fun was redesigning the main website, SI.edu. That project won a 2011 Webby Award for Cultural Institutions. In 2019 the program, which had ended in 2012, was re-invigorated and Interactive Knowledge once again has been chosen to join the elite group of digital design firms under a new, multi-year contract. We are the only firm of the current group that was also chosen as a preferred vendor back in 2004.
The Smithsonian Institution has been our most frequent and long-term client. We’ve redesigned their main site, built a highly successful Capital Campaign site (the Smithsonian raised over $1.7 billion!), debunked the myth that the Maya Calendar was predicting the end of the world, created several digital projects that are delivered via touchscreen at the National Museum of the American Indian and the National Air and Space Museum galleries and are available around the world online. And that’s just scratching the surface.
We begin 2020 with a great deal of gratitude for the opportunity to work with one of the country’s most well-known and respected cultural institutions. And we are starting this new era with a great new project working on the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art’s website. Though we have over fifteen year’s experience with the Smithsonian, this will be our first contract with Asian Art and we are thrilled!
