Interactive Knowledge Launches Digital-First Website for Smithsonian National Museum of African Art
Interactive Knowledge is proud to announce the launch of a newly redesigned website for the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art , supporting the museum’s vision of becoming a leading global resource for African art and culture.
The new website reflects a shift toward a digital-first strategy, designed to serve audiences far beyond the museum’s physical location in Washington, D.C. Rather than functioning only as a companion to an in-person visit, the platform offers a rich, standalone experience that allows users around the world to explore the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and research.
Working in close collaboration with Smithsonian stakeholders, Interactive Knowledge led the strategy, design, and development of the new site. The experience emphasizes storytelling, intuitive navigation, and a mobile-first approach that ensures accessibility across devices and user needs.
Accessibility was a central priority throughout the project. The site was developed to meet rigorous accessibility standards, ensuring that the museum’s content is inclusive and available to the widest possible audience.
The platform also brings together a range of dynamic content, allowing visitors to engage more deeply with artworks, explore exhibitions, and stay informed about events and programming. The result is a flexible and scalable digital platform that strengthens the museum’s ability to connect with global audiences and share the richness of African art and culture in new and meaningful ways.
Interactive Knowledge continues to partner with the National Museum of African Art through ongoing support and enhancements, helping the platform evolve alongside the museum’s mission.
