IK Partners with Smithsonian Office of the Under Secretary for Education to launch "Civic Education at the Smithsonian"

Interactive Knowledge (IK) partnered with the Smithsonian Office of the Under Secretary for Education (OUSE) to launch Civic Education at the Smithsonian, a new digital resource that helps educators and the public discover and engage with the Smithsonian’s extensive civic education offerings. Developed in support of the Smithsonian’s America 250 initiative, the site serves as a centralized destination for exploring civic education programs available across Smithsonian museums and institutions nationwide. The experience features an interactive ESRI-powered map that allows visitors to explore programs and student stories by location, as well as ArcGIS Storymaps that bring civic learning experiences to life through immersive, interactive storytelling.

Designed to make a broad and complex collection of educational resources easier to navigate, the site combines intuitive content organization, strong visual navigation cues, and a scalable Drupal-based architecture that supports future growth. Interactive Knowledge worked closely with OUSE and the Smithsonian web team to create an experience that aligns with the broader si.edu design system while introducing innovative features tailored to civic education audiences. The result is a dynamic platform that helps educators quickly find relevant programs and resources, discover new opportunities for engagement, and build meaningful connections to civic learning through authentic student experiences and testimonials.
